In short
Many AI carousels have the same tidy, symmetric look, and readers have learned to scroll past it. Imperfect by design is a switch that asks the designer for the opposite: a hand-made, slightly crooked look, while the text stays easy to read.
What it asks for
A few sentences are added to your brief that ask for hand-made touches: shapes that are not perfect, lines that wobble, a little tilt, in the way a person would make it. Readability is kept: the sizes and contrast rules still apply. When the switch is off, the brief is exactly what it was.
Where to switch it on
- Per brand: on the Brand tab of a brand, tick Imperfect by design. Every carousel made with that brand gets it.
- Per carousel without a brand: describe it in the brief: "hand-made, slightly crooked, imperfect on purpose".
A matching design direction
The designer also has a look called "Hand-made and imperfect" among the design directions it can choose from. The switch and the direction work together, but the switch is the one that says it every time.
When it fits
- Personal stories, lessons learned, behind the scenes.
- Creative fields: teaching, craft, design, coaching.
- Any account that wants a slide to look made, not generated.
It fits less well for compliance, finance reports and anything where a steady, formal look is part of the message. It is a switch for you to test: make the same carousel both ways and see which one your audience saves.
Questions
Will the text still be readable?
Yes. The brief asks for readable text, and the phone sizes and contrast rules apply as always.
Does it cost extra?
No. It is part of the brief for the same carousel.
Can I turn it off for one carousel?
A brand's setting applies to every carousel made with it. Make that carousel without the brand, or untick the setting.
