In short
Deleting a slide sounds like a one-click job, and it is. The part worth knowing is what happens to the rest. A carousel called "5 lessons" with one lesson gone is now wrong in the cover and in a "lesson 3 of 5" label.
How to delete a slide
Hover the slide and click the X
A small X sits in the top corner of every slide you hover. It grows when your pointer is on it. The last remaining slide has no X.

The slide is marked, not deleted
Nothing is removed yet. The slide dims and says "Will be removed", and a request waits in the tray with your other comments. Remove the request to keep the slide.
Press Apply changes
The delete is sent with the rest. The designer removes the slide and fixes whatever its absence broke.
What gets fixed around it
The designer is told that the slide is going and which other slides count or recap the carousel. In a test with a carousel called "Five things I learned hiring", removing the second lesson turned the cover into "Four things", changed "Lesson n of 5" to "of 4", and the remaining slides closed up. Check the list of changes after Apply: it says what was reworded.
Bring it back
Undo restores the slide, and redo removes it again, so nothing is lost by trying.
Questions
Does deleting a slide use an edit round?
Yes. A delete is sent with Apply like a comment, and one press of Apply is one edit round, whatever it contains.
Can I delete the first slide?
Yes, as long as other slides remain. Check the new first slide afterwards: it has to work as a cover, and a comment can ask for that.
Can I delete a slide in a single image post?
No. A post is one slide and keeps it. Start a new one instead.
Try it on your own carousel
Make a carousel from a short brief, then use this feature on it. It takes about a minute to get the first draft.
